New Assembly to be sworn in today |11 October 2011

The new Assembly is made up of 31 members – 25 directly elected and six proportionally elected, all from the ruling Parti Lepep.

The 25 directly elected members are Dr Jhowla Manoo (Anse Aux Pins), Bernard Arnephy (Anse Boileau), Melval Dugasse (Anse Etoile), Derek Samson (Anse Royale),

Murielle Marie (Au Cap), Wilby Lucas (Baie Lazare), Nathasha Esther (Baie Ste Anne), Mirena Souris (Beau Vallon), Nichole Barbe (Bel Air), Galen Bresson (Bel Ombre), Charles De Commarmond (Cascade), Kevin Vidot (English River), Dr David Payet (Glacis), Lenny Lebon (Grand Anse Mahe), Marc Volcere (Grand Anse Praslin), Chantal Ghislain (La Digue), Emmanuel Fideria (Les Mamelles), Sheryl Vangadasamy (Mont Buxton), Begitta Jeannevole (Mont Fleuri),
 Roma Aglae (Plaisance), Jenifer Vel (Pointe Larue), Sultanne Jacqueline (Port Glaud), Jeovanna Charles (Roche Caiman), Hubert Hoareau (St Louis), Alderic Bristol (Takamaka).

The six proportionally elected members (see accompanying story) are Mitcy Larue, Andre Pool, Patrick Herminie, Marie-Antoinette Rose, Sebastien Pillay and Marie-Louise Potter.

The first sitting of the National Assembly today follows its Proclamation by President James A. Michel, pursuant to Article 107 of the Constitution.

During the sitting, the 31 members will take their oath of allegiance before the Speaker, Dr Patrick Herminie.

The Assembly will also elect a Speaker and a deputy Speaker.

The swearing in ceremony will start at 3pm at the National Assembly building at Ile du Port
Unless its mandate is cut short under various provisions in the Constitution, the Assembly is elected for a period of five years.
