National Dialogue on social Renaissance-Praslin residents make their contribution |12 October 2011

Present during these two dialogues held on Saturday was Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, who is also the chairman of the National Steering Committee on Social Renaissance.

He visited both venues to take part in the discussions and thank residents for their contribution. The minister expressed his satisfaction that there were quality proposals from the residents and that the level of the discussion was of a high quality.
Among issues discussed on Saturday were drugs, education and employment.

Residents were particularly concerned about the impact of drug abuse on the youth and proposed that more measures be taken to educate children on the dangers of drugs.

It was also recommended that tighter security measures be put in place at the jetty and airport of Praslin to prevent trafficking.

The dialogue will continue this week with a work-based discussion at the Seychelles Trading Company’s conference room tomorrow for workers of the organisation.

On Saturday October 15 it will be the turn of residents of the northern regions to have their say when the dialogue moves to Beau Vallon, Bel Ombre, Glacis and Anse Etoile.

At Beau Vallon the dialogue will take place at the district’s secondary school, whereas at Bel Ombre, Glacis and Anse Etoile it will be held in the primary schools.

All meetings will run from 2pm to 4pm.
All residents are being invited to take part and help bring about the positive transformation that we want to see in our society. 

All recommendations will eventually be compiled into a national document once all the dialogues have been held in the districts, workplaces and schools.

The document will be submitted to Cabinet early next year after which a plan of action will be developed to implement a series of measures to address the identified challenges.
