The aim of the fair was to educate students and the public alike on the importance of history and its impact on society and their own development as well as to add more material to the local archive and museums to help contribute towards the preservation of national heritage and cultural identity.

Both came away from the fair with vouchers sponsored by the Seychelles Trading Centre and a cash prize sponsored by the Seychelles Heritage Foundation.

Each school and all students who took part from each category were also awarded a shield and certificate.

The overall winner to receive the Captain Webb’s Award – named after the founder of the Seychelles Archives in 1964 – was La Digue secondary school followed by a prize for Baie Ste Anne primary for best effort.

“This year’s projects are of very good quality, suggesting that students and all involved have dug really deep into the history of Seychelles to come up with these interesting displays; no doubt a very tough job for the judges,” said Miss Morel.
