Volleyball-Outsiders, Island Girls division two champions |26 October 2011

Made up of some of the country’s top female veteran players, Island Girls earned their eighth victory on a 3-0 (25-11, 26-24, 25-16) score against Aros (Anse Royale secondary school) last weekend to finish the women’s division two league unbeaten with 24 points.

Chantal Confait told Sports Nation that the team members were to meet yesterday to decide if they will accept promotion to the higher league or stay in the second-tier division.

“Some players want to take up the challenge of playing first division volleyball, while others say they are better off playing in the second division. We have to come to a consensus before making a formal announcement,” Confait told Sports Nation.

Mont Fleuri have finished as runners-up with five wins and three losses for 18 points, while St Louis Bombers have settled for third position with 14 points after three wins and five defeats. St Louis Bombers’ last win was on a 3-1 (25-15, 27-25, 17-25, 25-22) score against Roots Sisters who have two matches left against Aros.

In the men’s division two, Outsiders are back as champions after being dethroned by Neo Boyz last year.

Also made up of some of the country’s top male veteran players, Outsiders have lost just one match in six outings to finish with 16 points – the same total as runners-up La Digue.

Outsiders have been declared champions thanks to a better set score difference of +11 (16 for and 5 against). La Digue’s set difference is +8 (16 for and 8 against). In their last league match last weekend, La Digue rallied from two sets down to edge bottom team Cadets 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-8, 15-8) in 1 hour 25 minutes.

Juniors have taken third position with two wins in six matches for 10 points in the two-round league played between four teams. Cadets have finished the champions without a win.
