Speaker Herminie back from 125th IPU assembly |02 November 2011

The October 16 – 19 meeting, at which the keynote address was delivered by the secretary general of the United Nation, Ban Ki-Moon, discussed among others, the role of parliamentarians in addressing key challenges to securing the health of women and children, redistribution of power and wealth across the globe, as well as promoting and practicing good governance as means of advancing peace and security, drawing lessons from recent events of the Middle East and Africa.

The highlight of the conference was the election of a new President of the IPU, Abdelwahad Radi, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives. He replaces the outgoing one, Theo-Ben Gurirab, Speaker of the Parliament of Namibia.

The National Assembly of Seychelles joined the IPU on March 28, 2010 in its 122th Assembly in Bangkok, Thailand.
