Basketball: Olympic Solidarity Fiba Africa coaching course level 2-Local trainers sharpen knowledge

The opening ceremony of the 10-day course taking place at the Socga headquarters at Stad Linite

The intensive training programme was launched on Monday by the vice-president of the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) Hugh Adam, in the presence of director for sports management and development in the National Sports Council Robert Auguste and Seychelles Basketball Federation chairman Roy Collie. It is being conducted by Fiba Africa instructor, Kenyan Samuel Wanjohi.

The theoretical part of the training is taking place at the Socga headquarters at Stad Linite, while the Palais des Sports is hosting the practical side.

Apart from coaching at national club level, the trainers will also be able to take charge of the national team after successfully completing the programme.

Among the topics being covered are organisation and management of training, fundamental drills –including footwork, ball handling, individual offensive and defensive drills – offence and defence fundamentals, training methodology, pedagogy and sports nutrition and injuries.

Most of the coaches following the course took part in the Fiba Africa level one coaching clinic run by Kenyan instructor Ronny Owino in December 2009.
