SRC hosts workshop on integrity |21 November 2011

The SRC is able to run the workshop and hopefully address the integrity issues after receiving a R450,000 grant from the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).

The three-day workshop starts today at the SRC training room, Orion Mall, and will run from 2pm-3.30pm.

The main objective of the programme is to strengthen the capacity of non-state organisations in order to encourage their participation in policy development, notably in the area of governance and human rights. The agreement was signed by SRC, European Union (EU) and United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) representatives on September 22, 2011.

The SRC acknowledges that corruption can severely affect its ability to achieve its stated objectives, which are to collect government revenue, protect society, ease trade, enforce national legislation and provide trade statistics.

The grant has arrived at an opportune time as the SRC is currently undertaking initiatives to promote integrity among its staff. The grant will, therefore, be used to fund some of the SRC’s activities geared towards promotion of integrity in the workplace. The SRC has to carry out these activities within 18 months.

The activities chosen will help the SRC attain two main objectives:
To influence and increase awareness on good governance and integrity among the SRC and its stakeholders, and
To develop mechanisms for staff and stakeholders to address issues related to integrity.
