Fitness Seychelles-Adrienne wins Mahe Crazy Challenge

Taking part in the round-Mahe race for the second time after finishing joint-fourth with Hervé Nicholas in 12 hours 14 minutes 30 seconds (12h14:30) last year, Adrienne sliced 1h28:08 off his old best with a winning time of 10h46:22.

“It’s great to win such a race. I feel I could have clocked an even faster time, but I’m happy I’ve done it much faster than I did last year,” 48-year-old Adrienne told Sports Nation.

Barra was second with 10h47:20, Nicholas third in 12h14:10, Jimmy Jacques fourth in 13h09:11, Martin Laira fifth in 14h25:33, Lancelot Blanchard sixth in 15h23:39 and Robert Victor seventh in 15h31:20.

Maggie Harray was the only female competitor to complete the distance in 15h31:20.Women’s winner Harray with her prizes

A total of 55 competitors took the start at 6.20am at Stad Popiler and headed for Bel Ombre via Anse Etoile. They then took a footpath leading to Anse Major and Cap Ternay. After walking and running along the western coast, they headed south to reach Takamaka before returning to the Stad Popiler via the Providence Highway.

The men’s record of 9h03:18 is being held by James Barra, while Simone Jaffa holds the women’s best time of 12h23:56. They both achieved the times in 2010.

As promised, Jaffa did not attempt to defend her title. The minute she reached the finished line last year, she burst into tears.

“This is the first time I do the Mahe Crazy challenge and I’ll never do it again. It’s too painful. I’d rather run a marathon,” exclaimed Jaffa after last year’s win.

In the Praslin Crazy Challenge held earlier this year, Roy Jean-Baptiste won in 3h30: 45 to establish a new record as the course has become longer as a result of the new road built near the Raffles Hotel.

Hervé Nicholas was second in 3h53:55 and Ethan Boniface third in 4h28:25.

Yannick Hoareau, 13, was the youngest competitor, finishing fourth in 4h35:50, while 55-year-old Jenna Valentin was the first female contestant to cross the finish line in 4h41:23.

The oldest competitor, Justin Mémé aged 68, finished 19th in 6h05:47.
