“School libraries empower learners for life”-Mont Fleuri secondary marks International Library Month

To officially open the exhibition a special assembly was held in the presence of Department of Education officials, school council chairperson for the school, PTA representatives, teachers, parents and students.

Addressing those present the headteacher of the school, Rosemary Violette, thanked the teachers and students for their hard work in setting up the exhibition. She also congratulated the students for their talented and creative exhibits.

Works on display included creative poems, stories, bookmarks, interesting biographies, pictures as well as other creative works.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition also coincided with the prize giving for a poem competition, also one of the activities commemorating Library Month. Three of the best poems were chosen and the winners received their prizes. First place went to Hamath Dorby, second place to Fabien Bibi and third place to Shanna Charlette.

This event was also an opportunity for students who had taken part in a chess competition organised by Belonie secondary school to be rewarded. The Mont Fleuri secondary team comprising Hamath Dorby, Eilish Charlotte, Shanna Charlette, Mariana Eulentin, Allen Kimai and Mario Andre came out second in this competition.

Placing much emphasis on the importance of the library, a prize was also awarded to exemplary library users teachers Ms Peggy and Sir Kumar and students Kimberly Moncherry, Georgia Marie, Lyndina Maria, Hari-haran Siva and and Nilofer Nazar.
