The ceremony, held in the district administration’s hall, was attended by the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Vincent Meriton, principal secretary for community development Olsen Vidot, director general for community development Dan Frichot, Anse Royale’s elected member of the National Assembly Dereck Samson.

Also present were the district’s administrator Sylvanne Lemiel, Father David Alcindor and Reverend Christine Benoit who each gave a blessing during the ceremony, and over 100 awardees from different volunteer sections in the community including Neighbourhood Recreational Activities (NRA), the Family Council, Senior Citizens, disabled, sportsmen, coaches and managers to name a few.

Mrs Lemiel told Seychelles Nation that the ceremony is an annual event which is usually held in January.

“However, this year we decided to hold the event so that it coincides with the end of the Winning for Seychelles year which was the theme for 2011 declared by the President,” she said.

Mrs Lemiel thanked all volunteers and sponsors for helping to “shape Anse Royale into a friendly and helpful district”.

Minister Meriton congratulated the Anse Royale community for reaching its objectives of maintaining a healthy, unified and simple way of living among themselves and advised all volunteers at district level to keep up the good work and effort.

Each awardee received a certificate and a gift by the District Administration.
This was followed by entertainment and a dinner and dance.
