Woman gets 6 years for conspiracy to import illegal drugs |31 January 2012

Melitine Ladouceur, a businesswoman from Belvedere who runs a business at Francis Rachel Street, was convicted after she was found guilty of conspiracy to import illegal drugs into Seychelles.
She was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

The drugs were imported from South Africa on May 24, 2010 by two passengers and were seized on arrival by the NDEA (National Drugs Enforcement Agency).

Following an initial investigation it was discovered that the drugs were initially consigned by an accomplice of the accused living in South Africa who used the travelling passengers to transport the drugs to Seychelles.

A controlled delivery was effected which resulted in the drugs being handed over to Ladouceur, following which she was immediately arrested by the waiting NDEA agents.

The drugs consisted of two large blocks of a brown substance wrapped in black tapes, along with a small bottle of Gaviscon peppermint liquid and a box of Gaviscon liquid sachets.
