Football: Election for new SFF chairman-Dereck Barbé rules himself out of race |15 February 2012

Barbé was one of three candidates alongside Roch Henriette and Joel de Commarmond who had beaten the deadline to contest the election for the post of SFF chairman during the sport’s annual general meeting scheduled for Saturday February 25.

Patel resigned as SFF chairman in December last year and his successor will be either De Commarmond or Henriette who is the actual vice-chairman.

Speaking to Sports Nation, Mr Barbé said his work commitment will prevent him from delivering his task efficiently and therefore stepping down from the race is the best option.

Mr Barbé, who has long been involved in local football as a player, coach and manager, acknowledged the great work done by Mr Patel during his time as chairman.

“Seychelles football has lost a great man,” he said.

He added that Mr Patel has set up a solid base for local football and if it was not for work commitment, he would have openheartedly volunteered to take over and continue the work started by the former chairman.

Mr Barbé wished both contenders the best of luck during the election and urged them to work hard for the betterment and progress of local football.

Sports Nation hopes to soon bring you an interview with Mr Henriette who is out of the country.
