Dominoes-La Salette win Opening Season tournament |01 March 2012

After ending last season on a winning note with victory in the Closing Cup competition, La Salette took the Opening Season tournament win last Sunday. They beat Anse Boileau 3-0m in the final.

La Salette are playing with the big guns this season after easily clinching the second division title last year – a year after making the drop to the bottom division.

Cascade finished third in the tournament contested by all 15 teams registered with the Seychelles Domino Federation (SDF) and which took part in the tournament played at the Val d’Andorre community centre.

Member of the National Assembly for Baie Lazare, Wilby Lucas handed over the prizes to the best teams and said Baie Lazare is proud to have organised the tournament and hopes to host more in the future.

After district administrator Joyce Lepathy had welcomed the teams, members of the newly elected SDF executive committee were presented to the players and chairman Anselme Arnephie thanked his predecessor Fabien Belle for his devotion and dedication towards the game of dominoes.

Arnephie beat challengers Neville Bonnelame and Michel Labiche to succeed Belle as SDF chairman. Belle had been in office for 19 years and chose not to run for re-election.

Bonnelame is the SDF vice-chairman, Labiche the secretary and Maryliane Nolin the treasurer. Francis Mirabeau, Gerard Emile, Raymond Larue, Jemmy Rachel and Joseph Agathine are the five ordinary members of the executive committee.

Meanwhile, six individuals – A. Faure, J. Barbé, L. Napoleon, A. Philoé, J. Ismaël and Condrey Julienne –have volunteered to serve on the referees’ committee.
