It’s all systems go for the 2012 Carnival |02 March 2012

The opening ceremony, which will take place in the heart of Victoria, will be marked by lots of music and speeches by local and foreign dignitaries.

There will be a variety show and animation around Victoria by various musical groups starting at 4pm. This will lead to the more formal part of the ceremony with speeches by the chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) Alain St Ange; the director of Reunion tourism Pascal Viroleau; the secretary general of UNWTO Taleb Rifai; the Goodwill Ambassador of the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation Dee Dee Bridgewater; and the Seychelles Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Vincent Meriton, who will officially launch the carnival.

This will be followed by a performance of the Carnival theme song by its composer Jean-Marc Volcy and supporting artists.

More music and performances by local and international artists will follow until the end of the ceremony at around 7.30pm.

The main carnival parade will take place tomorrow starting at 2.30pm.
