Over 100 maritime and farming students graduate-● Julia Barbier and Lianna Julienne win President’s Cup |15 March 2012

They were rewarded during the centres’ joint graduation ceremony held on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre.

Both graduates -- who are incidentally cousins -- received their cups from Vice-President Danny Faure in the presence of Designated Minister Vincent Meriton. Also there were the Education, Employment and Human Resources minister Macsuzy Mondon, as well as the Investment, Natural Resources and Industry Minister Peter Sinon and other high government officials.

The MTC acting director Brian Hoareau and the SAHTC director Georgie Belmont, the students and parents were also present.
Julia followed an advanced certificate in fisheries science and Lianna an advanced certificate in ornamental horticulture and landscaping. Lianna also got the best performer award in her course.

The criteria for outstanding performer include overall performance, leadership qualities, involvement in school life and the community as well as exemplary behaviour and courtesy.

A total of 72 trainees graduated from the MTC after having completed two years of training at advanced certificate level in the fields of marine mechanics, navigation and seamanship, fisheries science as well as an 18-month course in basic fisheries science.

From the SAHTC, 44 students graduated after completing two years of training in general agriculture, ornamental horticulture and landscaping at advanced certificate level for two years as well as certificate level course of 18 months.
Apart from certificates for all graduates there were also awards and prizes for overall best performers in each course from the two centres.

The best performer in certificate in basic fisheries science went to Dominique Rose. Jean-Paul Alcide received the award for best performer in certificate in general agriculture (apprenticeship). For the certificate in ornamental horticulture and landscaping (apprenticeship) Gine Mathurin was rewarded for her outstanding performance. Fariska Savy won the best performer in advanced certificate in general agriculture.

Patsy Theresine got the award for the best performer in advanced fisheries science and Shanyl Chang-Time received the advanced certificate in navigation and seamanship award.

The overall best performer in advanced certificate in marine mechanics went to Dean Payet.
