Athletics-New competition to scout young talents and boost physical ability

The ‘Seychelles Track & Field Schools Invitational Meet’, which will be held from April 20-21 at Stad Popiler, will feature young athletes from the seven best performing secondary schools during the 2011 National inter-school Athletics Championship.

Those are Praslin, Anse Royale, English River, Plaisance, La Digue, Pointe Larue and Beau Vallon. Athletes from these seven schools will compete alongside those of the International School of Kenya.

Jointly organised by the Seychelles Athletics Federation, local telecommunications company Airtel and the National Sports Council, the competition will also provide our young athletes with quality exposure and the opportunity to further develop their potential to the fullest.

The competition has been initiated following an agreement signed between the Ministry of Education and the sports department s for a better coordinated and monitored school sports system which will ensure the development of children and young people of the country through the ‘Physical Education and School Sports’ (PESS) strategy.

The PESS, which will be jointly carried out by the departments for sports and education, forms part of the ongoing revision of the local sports structure to ensure that necessary structures are put in place to properly carry out and monitor the delivery of the national school sports programme.
