Football: Barclays league division one-St Michel register 10-1 victory |31 March 2012

Ironically, it was St Michel’s first league win as they came out with all guns blazing after some had started to associate them with a team in crisis.

On Thursday, there never seemed to be a crisis as it was more like men against boys as coach Vivian Bothe’s team toiled with the newly promoted Quincy.

Surprisingly Quincy had the first chance in the fifth minute from Archille Henriette’s corner which fell invitingly to Patrick Moustache but he lost his footing and fluffed a great opportunity.

Four minutes later, St Michel opened the floodgates after Malagasy Jean Del’Or Tsaralaza’s inch-perfect cross at the far post was easily tapped in by Andy Mougal (1-0).

A minute later, Mougal nearly surprised goalkeeper Trevor Bill with a cross-cum-shot which the Quincy custodian could only parry into corner.

St Michel were denied a clear goal-scoring chance in the 12th minute as Tsaralaza slipped a pass to Marcus Labiche who bore on goal but was stopped in his stride by referee Nelson Emile as there were two footballs on the pitch.

Quincy had a half-chance in the 15th minute from Ted Bill’s free-kick but goalkeeper Nelson Sopha was quick off his line to punch away from Jerry Freminot.

St Michel though were far superior and in the 27th minute, Labiche missed an easy header from Allen Larue’s cross.
In the 32nd minute, Tsaralaza saw his header from captain Don Anacoura’s cross hit the crossbar and Labiche also hit the rebound on the post before the danger was cleared.

St Michel had to replace Mougal in the 35th minute after suffering an ankle injury and Alex Nibourette came on. The league champions went further ahead a minute later as captain Don Anacoura released Labiche whose shot on the turn crashed into the net (2-0).

It was soon 3-0 as Nibourette combined with Labiche in the 37th minute before he centred to Tsaralaza who headed home from close range.

Quincy pulled off a midfielder to bring on a defender in the shape of Dave Malcouzane to stop the St Michel onslaught. St Michel too had to substitute Henny Dufresne through injury and Leeroy Corallie took his place.

St Michel pressed on the accelerator in the second half and in the 51st minute there was some good approach play involving Nelson Laurence, Larue and captain Anacoura. Anacoura rolled the ball to the overlapping Nibourette whose cross was drilled home at the near post by Corallie (4-0).

On the hour mark, Corallie returned the favour as he picked out Nibourette who laid the ball into the path of captain Anacoura who thumped it into the roof of the net (5-0).

Two minutes later, Tsaralaza released Corallie whose shot was blocked by goalkeeper Bill but the loose ball fell to Labiche who had all the time in the world to shoot into an empty net (6-0).

In the 64th minute, captain Anacoura curled in a corner which was headed by Nibourette past goalkeeper Bill (7-0).
Five minutes later, Laurence worked hard to set up Tsaralaza who chipped a pass to Corallie whose sweet volley beat Bill (8-0).

St Michel laid siege to the Quincy goal and as they failed to clear the danger in the 71st minute, Nibourette latched onto the ball from outside the penalty area and his superb strike crashed into the roof of the net (9-0).

St Michel then seemed to relax their grip on the match and Quincy should have reduced the arrears in the 78th minute as Alex Dugasse went on a counter but his near post shot was turned into corner by goalkeeper Sopha.

In the 81st minute, Robin Joubert scored a consolation goal as he pounced on Samuel Henriette’s poor back pass to fire past Sopha (9-1).

St Michel got into double figures in the 89th minute as Corallie combined with Tsaralaza who was brought down by Steven Domingue for a clear penalty which referee Nelson Emile awarded. Tsaralaza took the spot kick and goalkeeper Bill blocked his shot for his second penalty miss in three matches.  However, Tsaralaza was quick to collect the loose ball to rifle it into the net to round off a whopping 10-1 win for his team.

Quincy’s coach Elsie Ernesta was very disappointed with his players, especially the defenders as they gave their opponents too much space.

“We played very poorly compared to our performance against Anse Reunion. I think the players paid too much respect to St Michel,” coach Ernesta told Sports Nation.

As for St Michel’s manager Andrew Jean-Louis, he said the three points are very important and will boost the players’ morale and confidence.

“We played much better in the second half but our opponents made life easy for us as they conceded possession easily. It is a good win but we still have a lot of work to do to maintain our momentum in our quest to defend our titles,” manager Jean-Louis said.
