Chess-Joseph and Edmond win St Louis tournament |04 April 2012

Organised by the St Louis chess club and sponsored by the district’s administration office, the competition attracted more than 15 young male and female chesslers who battled out for the top prizes on a league format.

In the boys’ group, a best-of-three final series was needed to decide a winner after Joseph and Angelo Bistolet of St Louis had both accumulated four points. Even in the decider, the competition between the two players was intense. Joseph won the first game, only to see his opponent level the series a game apiece. It was only after the third game that Joseph moved a step ahead of Bistolet to win and go home with the top prize.

In the girls’ group, there was no need for a decider with Edmond topping the group on three points. Macy Botshare, also of Beau Vallon, finished as runner-up with two points.

The St Louis chess club would like to express its gratitude to the district administration’s office for its help and all the parents for their continued support.
