New publication to honour teachers |16 April 2012

This initiative was presented during the launch of the Celebrating teachers’ project last week. The publication is the first of a series of activities under the new project initiated by the Education Ministry.

The aims of this publication and how it will be done were presented by the new chief executive Margaret Pillay of the National Human Resource Development Council, on Thursday afternoon at the School for Education Mont Fleuri. Mrs Pillay is also a teacher by profession.

Present were Education Minister Macsuzy Mondon as well the principal secretary Merida Delcy. The opposition leader in the National Assembly David Pierre was also there along with teachers and students.

Mrs Pillay said the publication also aims to give teachers’ a voice and ensure readers are informed of real issues they grapple with.

“All teachers are encouraged to take part even those who have retired and the ones who have changed profession.”

She said the project idea was presented to head teachers in January this year. The teachers are expected to submit their names to their head teacher’s office or the Education principal secretary’s office by Friday April 20. They will then take part in a workshop where they will get more information about the publication.

Workshops for Mahe and Silhouette teachers will be on Tuesday April 24 from 8.30am to 12 noon at the School of Education, Mont Fleuri.

Praslin and La Digue teachers will have theirs on Wednesday April 25 from 8.30am to 12 noon at the Praslin secondary school.

By June the teachers are to submit their contributions where they will be reviewed. The publication is expected to be launched in October.
