Tennis: ITF/CAT African Junior Circuit 2012-Laporte wins first leg of circuit |02 May 2012
Laporte, who is competing in the under 12 years old category, beat Jonathan Mushiba of Burundi 2-0 (6-3, 6-4) in the final.
Seychelles’ other player at the tournament, Shaun Andriamaro, lost against Mushiba to finish ninth overall.
According to coach Frederic Canale who is accompanying the players, the win increases Laporte’s changes of entering the International Tennis Federation (ITF) academy in Burundi, the same institution where Mushiba is already a member.
As for Andriamaro, coach Canale said he is gradually improving and is showing some good quality tennis.
The two players were also to team up for the doubles competition yesterday, before entering the second leg of the circuit today.
Organised under the authority of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) with the support of the ITF, the competition consists of a series of under-14, under-12 and under-10 tournaments.
Other than Seychelles, the countries taking part are Kenya, Burundi, Congo, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.
