Football: Barclays league division one-La Passe stretch unbeaten run, Anse Reunion and St Roch win |07 May 2012

Dynamo – La Passe

Both teams came into the match preserving an unbeaten run and it always promised to be a tough encounter especially as Dynamo sat back and hoping to hit La Passe on the counter.

La Passe was always a threat with their Malagasy contingent and in the 9th minute Malagasy Fanampin Fagnorena chased a long ball to outspeed the defence but his low shot was well saved by goalkeeper Jules Monnaie.

A minute later Dynamo’s Francis Moumou floated a free kick to Malagasy Asman Todisoa but he miscued his header from a good scoring position.

In the 17th minute, Jules Constance lofted a free kick to Malagasy Fagnorena who cut back to Achille Henriette but his header sailed just over the crossbar.

La Passe though had to pull off their captain of the day Geal Gesinghaus who had a recurring injury and Andrew Jean came on.

Dynamo, who had struggled to create a decent chance, nearly stunned La Passe in the 44th minute from captain Elvis Telemaque’s superb ball to Marcus Maria who appeared to be held back by Kenny Nibourette but referee Eddie Maillet allowed play to go on.

La Passe almost stole the lead on a counter as Fagnorena went on a mazy run to elude a couple of tackles to flash a cross to his countryman Fredo but he made a meal of his shot with the goal gaping.

La Passe took a decisive step to winning this match in the second minute of the second half from Achille Henriette’s corner which was met by Jean-Paul Adela’s towering header which flew past goalie Monnaie to make it 1-0.

The goal forced Dynamo out of their shell as they raised the tempo and in the 65th minute captain Telemaque’s curling free kick required a last ditch clearance by La Passe’s retreating striker Fagnorena.

In the 69th minute, La Passe countered through footballer of the year Henriette who linked up with Fagnorena who cut inside to slip a pass to Renick Esther who blazed over the crossbar from a good scoring position.

La Passe threatened again to extend their lead in the 75th minute as Henriette went on a mazy run to skip past two defenders on the byeline and his teasing cross was just pushed out by goalie Monnaie into Fagnorena’s path but failed to connect in the box.

As Dynamo threw caution to the wind, they were almost punished in the 79th minute as substitute Yves Zialor released Renick Esther with his first touch but goalkeeper Monnaie was brave enough to dive at his feet to deny him.

Two minutes later La Passe’s Zialor capitalised on Jude Botsoie’s mistake but he drilled the ball wide from a decent scoring position but his team held on to win and inflict a first defeat on Dynamo as well as extend their lead to seven points on defending league champions St Michel.

Dynamo’s coach Cliff Nolin felt that his team fought hard but a lapse in concentration cost them the game.

As for La Passe coach Bruno Saindini, he acknowledged that it was a tough match as his players came against a packed defence which made life difficult for them but was overall pleased they won in the end.

Anse Reunion v/s St Louis Suns

Anse Reunion bounced back from last week’s defeat to St Francis to beat St Louis Suns 2-0 on Saturday on La Digue.

This was St Louis Sun’s second consecutive defeat, after losing 2-3 to Côte D’Or last week on Praslin.

Samy Radegonde, who missed his team’s defeat to St Francis, gave the La Digue outfit the lead in the first half on Saturday.

St Louis Suns were reduced to ten men in the second period when midfielder Brian Dorby was sent off.

Hubert Ernesta added a second for Anse Reunion to seal St Louis Suns’ fate.
On Saturday on Praslin the match between Lightstars and Quincy did not take place as the Mahe team could not secure seats on the ferry to and from the match. The match was scheduled to take place at the Baie Ste Anne pitch as the Amitie stadium has been deemed not fit to use and awaits its occupancy certificate from the planning authority.

St Roch rattle Côte D’Or’s season

Bel Ombre based St Roch rocked Côte D’Or’s season with a hard fought 2-0 victory at a rainy Stad Linite on Friday evening.

These two teams came into this match with contrasting fortunes as St Roch had only managed a drab goalless draw against ten-man and bottom club Lightstars at the same venue.  As for Côte D’Or, they had impressed when inflicting a first defeat on St Louis Suns last week on home soil.

Côte D’Or were buzzing as they kicked off this match on a wet pitch and they had plenty of possession and displaying some good movement urged on by their coach Ahmed Abdou.

In the 16th minute, the Praslin side countered swiftly through Rick Bibi who linked up with his captain Patrick Rasaminana who in turn fed his colleague Jean Jose Tigana whose shot was parried and then saved by goalie Julio Toulon.

Côte D’Or’s Tigana tested goalie Toulon again in the 21st minute with a swerving free kick but he cleared the danger.

Two minutes later Jones Joubert bore forward to release Dine Suzette and in the impending melée, Tigana fired at goalie Toulon who deflected the ball into corner.

On the half hour mark, St Roch shocked Côte D’Or from a long free kick by Malvin Pierre which fell to Roy Julie who controlled the ball and went past two defenders to shoot low past goalkeeper Kitson Cecile to make it 1-0 against the run of play.

Five minutes later, Côte D’Or should have drawn level as Francis Louise picked out Dine Suzette with a glorious defence splitting pass and the former The Lions’ striker looked odds on to score but he amazingly blazed wide with the goal at his mercy.

On the stroke of half time, St Roch nearly doubled their lead from another long ball from Patrick Bonne to Julie who flicked it with his head to Marcus Emilien who somehow flashed his shot across goal with the goal begging as Côte D’Or rode their luck.

Côte D’Or came out for the second period eager to redress the balance as St Roch brought on Daven Belle and Nerick Athanase to bolster their attack.

In the 46th minute, Steve Esther played a hopeful ball in the penalty area which dropped invitingly to Tigana whose toe poke brought another brilliant save by goalkeeper Toulon who had a good game.

In the 56th minute St Roch went further ahead from Patrick Bonne’s pinpoint cross to Athanase whose glancing header from an unmarked position crept into the far corner to make it 2-0.

St Roch though suffered further setback on the hour mark as Malvin Pierre had a head injury and was replaced by Keddy Porice but minutes later when Malagasy Nestor Benahovy limped off with a muscle pull, coach Ralph Jean-Louis had to re-organise his defence as they had to hold on with ten men.  Belle dropped into defence as they worked overtime to keep Côte D’or at bay.

In the 75th minute, St Roch almost added a third from Richard Javotte’s corner and goalie Kitson Cecile went down claiming he had been pushed but referee Kierans Yocette was not convinced, allowing Richard Guichard the chance to hit the cross bar with a free header.

In the 89th minute as Côte D’Or grew frustrated, Ron Lesperance was lucky not to be sent off as he kicked out at Bonne while they tussled for the ball on the floor on the bye line infront of the grandstand.

On the stroke of full time, St Roch countered as Javotte dispossessed a defender to find himself on a two on one situation with Julie waiting for his pass but he went for glory and fluffed a great chance.

As for Côte D’Or, they also had two gilt edge opportunities in the 91st minute as captain Rasaminana centred to Suzette but he was off balance as he headed over the bar from close range.

In the dying minutes, Tigana played a long ball to his captain Rasaminana whose leaping header forced a fabulous stop by goalie Toulon to ensure his team collected three vital points and put a dent in Côte
D’Or’s progress.
