Sponsored by the Olympic Solidarity, the 10-day long clinic was conducted by Fiba Africa instructor Kenyan Samuel Wanjohi and it covered topics such as organisation and management of training, fundamental drills – including footwork, ball handling, individual offensive and defensive drills – offense and defence fundamentals, training methodology, pedagogy and sports nutrition and injuries.

The theoretical part of the training took place at the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) headquarters, while the Palais des Sports hosted the practical side.

The coaches received their certificates from the president of Socga Antonio Gopal, in the presence of the association’s executive committee members and members of the Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) executive committee.

Mr Gopal reminded the coaches that the new accreditation signals a bright future for local basketball and he vowed Socga’s continuous commitment to help in developing the sport. He also asked them to target women basketball, so that we can reach the level of the other countries in the region and on the continent.

The 12 coaches who received the Fiba Africa level 2 coaching certificates are Nigel Ah-Kong, Denis Dodin, Dominic Pillay, Alix Allisop, Jerry Andrew, Pascal Fostel, Tony Juliette, Alvin Alcindor, Guy Hall, Lenny Aglaé, Michel Malbrook and Philip Arrisol.
