Mancham to represent AU at presidential poll in Egypt

Mr ManchamThe invitation for Mr Mancham was extended by Jean Ping, chairperson of the African Union.

“Given your vast experience and commitment to the strengthening of democracy and peace in the continent, I would like to kindly request you to witness on behalf of the AU the Egyptian presidential election,” Mr Ping said in his letter of invitation to Mr Mancham dated May 7, 2012 in Addis Ababa.

The invitation to Mr Mancham has the full blessing of the Seychelles government whose Ministry of Foreign Affairs has agreed to the appointment of Conrad Mederic, parliament officer of the Seychelles embassy in South Africa, to assist Mr Mancham on the mission. 

Mr Mancham, who is at the moment in the U.S.A after taking part in a “Think Tank” gathering at Hoover’s Institute of War, Revolution and Peace of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California and who is expected to arrive in Cairo on Sunday May 20, said: “I am deeply honoured to be asked by the African Union Commission to represent the AU as a witness of the forthcoming presidential election in Egypt which is an historical event for Egypt and Africa.”
