Table Tennis-Remie gets another two-year mandate |18 May 2012

Remie was first elected to head table tennis in Seychelles in 2000 and this is his seventh two-year mandate.

Under Remie’s leadership, local table tennis has grown in popularity and earned probably its best result in any international competition last year when Anniessa Benstrong snatched the women’s singles gold medal at the 8th Indian Ocean Island Games which the country hosted.

Male number one player Godfrey Sultan’s singles gold medal of the 2nd Anoca (Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa) Games in Mauritius in 2010 with a 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-4) win over Mauritian number one Warren Li Kam Wa also ranks among the sport’s best results.

“We have some very good young players around and a good training programme in place. And we hope to achieve better results in the future,” Remie told Sports Nation.

Remie will be helped in delivering his duties by secretary Stephanie Remie, treasurer David Low-Thion, tournament organiser Arthur Barallon, and ordinary members Margaret Gabriel, Yannick Nicette and Samantha François.
