New accord to boost air services between Seychelles and Abu Dhabi |25 May 2012

The accord, which is an extra-bilateral arrangement supplementary to the UAE/Seychelles Air Service Agreement signed in 1992, will allow both Etihad Airways, the designated airline of the Abu Dhabi government, and Air Seychelles, our national airline, to operate up to 14 weekly passenger flights and seven weekly cargo operations with any type of aircraft whether owned or leased on its respective routes.

This arrangement will allow Etihad Airways and Air Seychelles to improve services provided to its guests with possibilities to extend to various destinations in the region, such as Comoros, Madagascar, Kilimanjaro Kenya, Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and far-off destinations such as Australia.

“We are happy that the agreement was completed successfully, as it is part and parcel of our continuous efforts to encourage air services development in Seychelles. This move also shows our support to the development of strong air links between Seychelles and Abu Dhabi,” said the Minister for Home Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan when he met officials of the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi the previous week to agree on the term of the memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The final version of the MoU was signed by Terence Mondon, principal secretary in the Ministry of Home affairs and Transport, and Mohammed Hareb Al Yousef from Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, following negotiations between representatives of the two countries.

This was done in a brief ceremony which took place at the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority headquarters at the airport on Wednesday afternoon.
