Volleyball: National league, division two-Rainbow maintain winning streak |30 May 2012

Rainbow took exactly one hour and one minute to go past Mont Fleuri 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-23) for their sixth consecutive win in as many matches to preserve their top spot on the table.

They have now garnered a maximum 18 points with 18 sets in their favour and only two against them. Following the defeat, Mont Fleuri are now seventh on eight points. They have three sets for and 15 against.

Island Girls dropped their two-set advantage to taste defeat for the first time this season with their 2-3 defeats by third-place Roots Sisters.

After winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-19, Island Girls had no more weapons in their arsenal to kill their opponents in the third set which they lost 25-17.

More strong-minded in the fourth set, Roots Sisters capitalised on their opponents’ weakness to win the set 25-11 and tied the match at two sets apiece, forcing a fifth decisive set.

Digging into their reserve, Roots Sisters managed to narrowly end their opponents 15-13 for their fifth win of the season. They are now third on 16 points, similar to runners-up Island Girls who have a superior set difference.

Roots Sisters have 15 sets for and eight against, compared to 17 for and seven against for Island Girls.

As for St Louis Bombers, the defeat pushes them to the sixth spot on the table with six points from two wins and four defeats. They have 10 sets for and 12 against.

Fifth-placed Bel Ombre rubbed more salt into bottom-placed Aros’ wound with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-7, 25-11) victory, leaving them winless after seven matches.

Bel Ombre have collected 12 points from three wins and three defeats from six matches and have 14 sets for and nine against.
