Ministry marks children’s day with major school events |02 June 2012

The first event took her and senior education officials to Plaisance secondary school which marked its 20th anniversary in the presence of nostalgic former students including Labour and Human Resource Development Minister Idith Alexander.

Mrs Mondon unveiled a plaque to mark the anniversary as retired Bishop French Chang-Him offered prayers for continued blessings for the school he put before God 20 years ago when it started.
She was presented with a copy of the school’s magazine by two prefects.

Mrs Mondon and her team then joined Environment and Energy Minister Dr Rolph Payet at Mont Fleuri primary school where he launched a tree planting campaign aimed at getting 20,000 new trees this year.

Five Seychellois who have played a major role in making the country green were presented with awards as the school was gifted with planting tools by Jothinathan Naidoo of Surya Enterprises, before the ministers and other guests planted a long line of palm trees that are guaranteed to truly change the school’s landscape.

The delegation drove to Port Glaud primary school where the Indian Association of Seychelles which is headed by Vijay Patel adopted the school.

The organisation signed to give R250,000 to the school this year to help “numerous projects at the school to improve its education facilities and purchase education materials”.

Le Meridien Barbarons hosted children from Grand Anse Mahe and La Misere primary schools at the hotel “to make the day more special and different compared to their usual school celebrations”.
