SSFC Heineken Funfish Slam-Team Kuki reel in top prize |20 June 2012

Organised by the Seychelles Sports Fishing Club (SSFC), the tournament attracted 10 teams which battled for the six available prizes. These were winner, runner-up, heaviest slam, heaviest Dorado, Wahoo and Yellow Fin Tuna.

Captained by Tarak Patel, with skipper Steven Gerrard and crew-member Harry Gerrard, Team Kuki were declared the winner with a total 41.1 points.

With a total 39.01 points, Team Marlin with Captain and Skipper Charles Marzocchi and team members Charlie Marzocchi, Joe Morel and Noel Jumeau were the competition’s runners-up.

For the heaviest catch prizes, a 5.05kg catch gave Team Mimi 2 the Heaviest Dorado Award, while Team Dalon were awarded the Heaviest Kingfish Award with a 16.85kg catch.

Team Marlin weighed-in an 11.5kg Yellowfin Tuna to be awarded the heaviest catch award for the species.

On behalf of the SSFC, committee member Michael Arnephie congratulated Team Kuki for their exploit and also thanked all the team who took part in the competition.

Mr Arnephie added that the fishing competitions are becoming more challenging and he also thanked the African Billfish Foundation for providing tags for any billfish caught during the tournament.
SSFC secretary Grant Heyer also thanked all those who took part in the tournament, especially the new members – 36 and five new junior members.

He also thanked Heineken for sponsoring the tournament for the second consecutive year. He added that the SSFC is looking forward to make all the remaining competitions on this year’s calendar as exciting as the Heineken Funfish Slam.

The next events on the SSFC calendar are the July 21 Family/Junior Fish Off with a Dockside Catch and Release, followed by the always exciting August 18 Southeast Monsoon Sailfish Tournament.
