Drug bust on Praslin and La Digue |27 June 2012

The bust forms part of a recently launched major drive against illegal drug traffickers who have been operating for some time between the islands of Praslin and La Digue.

Those arrested on La Digue include three females in their twenties, who were caught with more than R100,000 worth of drugs.

All three are originally from Mahe and are in employment. They now face serious charges of trafficking illegal drugs.

Charges of trafficking illegal drugs will also be laid against a further three males in their thirties, with addresses on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue respectively and a female in her fifties also from Mahe.

The total number of trafficking charges arising out of this operation is seven.
They are a result of a recently launched strategy both on land and sea targeting drug traffickers who have been using the facilities on La Digue and Praslin to conduct their illegal business.

The NDEA has recently established a permanent presence on La Digue, complementing the existing presence on Praslin which has been there for some time.
