Child minders get new skills

Georgiana Marie addressing the workshop

This was held recently at the Seychelles Hospital and is a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Small Enterprise Promotion Agency (Senpa).

Attending the workshop was director general of public health services Dr Shobha Hajarnis, child and school health programme manager at the Ministry of Health Anne Marie Bibi, its health promotion officer Georgiana Marie and director of rehabilitation services Patricia Rene.

Mrs Bibi said the workshop is part of the early childhood framework action plan launched last year.
“We feel local child minders had not been included enough in the plan and since they fall into the entrepreneurs category at Senpa, we thought it would be a good idea to bring them in on the projects,” she said, adding the workshop comprises mostly of lessons and tips on enforcing respect for culture, religion and nationality among other important things relating to child minding in Seychelles.

Some of the topics touched during the workshop was the importance of play in childhood development, the public health issue of vaccination and an introduction to the early childhood care and education framework.
