Handball: Mohan League-Storm too strong for the Queens |23 July 2012

The players of coach Danny ‘Mathias’ Philoé extended their winning run to six games with a 29-19 victory at the Palais des Sports in an encounter beamed live on Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) TV.

After going for the breather with a two-goal lead – 14-12 – Mont Fleuri Storm returned for the second 30-minute spell wanting to impose their game and they did just that although it took them 3 minutes 25 seconds (3:25) to net their 15th goal through captain Nathalie Samynadin.

Marie-Chetty netted two more to bring the score to 17-12 before Royale Queens’ skipper Thelma Sauzier walked to the penalty line with 24:41 left to play to reduce the score to 17-13 and it seemed they would put together a good run when teammate Debar Volcy added another goal (17-14).

Instead, it was the Storm who pushed forward as their defence linked well with their offence to get six consecutive goals, including three from young and skilful Queeny Hertel, for a 10-goal lead – 24-14 – with 13:30 left on the clock.

Again Royale Queens made an attempt to get back into the match with skipper Sauzier scoring three consecutive goals inside 4 minutes (24-17), but unfortunately for them they were again outscored 5-2 in the final seven minutes of the encounter to lose 19-29.

Despite the loss, Sauzier finished as the game’s top scorer with eight goals, while Mont Fleuri Storm got balanced scoring with three players – Natalie Samynadin, Marie-Claire Chetty and player of the year Claire Marguerite – finishing with six apiece in their team’s sixth victory in as many matches for 18 points in the three-round league.

The defeat was Royale Queens’ second in six games.
Meanwhile, men’s champs Super 8, also coached by Philoé, defeated Young Eagles 42-37 to stay unbeaten in eight games in the three-round championship.

They have 16 points after seven wins and a draw at the end of the second round of matches in the five-team league.

Coach Philoé told Sports Nation his teams are aiming to finish their respective championships unbeaten to retain their titles.
