The Games’ official opening will take place tonight in the newly-built Olympic Stadium, in Olympic Park, Stratford, London.  The stadium which will also host the athletic events as well as the Games' closing ceremony has a capacity of approximately 80,000, making it the third-largest stadium in Britain behind Wembley Stadium and Twickenham Stadium.

As for tonight’s opening ceremony, it will feature a parade of all competing nations and the highly anticipated entrance of the Olympic flame, which ignites the cauldron and signals the start of the Games.

Meanwhile, the Olympic torch relay which started on May 19 passed through Wood Green in north London Centre on Wednesday and among the bearers was former decathlete Daley Thompson who won the decathlon gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984, and broke the world record for the event four times.

With four world records, two Olympic gold medals, three Commonwealth titles, and wins in the World and European Championships, Thompson is considered by many to be the greatest decathlete of all time.

Other than the host nation, the various foreign communities living in England are also experiencing the Olympic fever. These include the Seychellois community in northern London who has vowed its full support for Team Seychelles during the Games.

Meanwhile, members of Team Seychelles who arrived in London on Tuesday have settled in well and have said they are ready for the challenges that lie ahead of them.
