Letter to the Editor |01 August 2012

I must say that friendship truly enfolds the solitary soul in the world's larger embrace.
Nostalgy may not be what it used to be but Lablache's article about the virtues and qualities of this former class-mate has taken me on a trip down memory lane.

Obviously, in this world, some people are born old and tired - while others find strength to move forward even when they get beyond 70.

William Penn said - "I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore there is any kindness I can do, let me do it now for I shall not pass this way again".

It was certainly a great gesture on the part of Nation and Mr Lablache to publicly pay homage to this great and deserving Seychellois, now when he is still alive, and not to wait for his demise to proclaim and acclaim his remarkable life.

French Chang-Him is, above all, a man of wisdom and philosophy and I believe he would greatly appreciate these words of the great Winston Churchill -
"The truth is incontrovertible
Malice may attack it
And ignorance may deride it
But in the end there it is..."
Mr Editor, I am sure that a little bit of philosophy and reflection would certainly be appreciated by some of your readers at this time when our Nation is in a reflective mood.

James R. Mancham
