New MNA to be sworn in |14 August 2012

Mr Marie was elected during last Friday’s by-election in which he won 1,317 votes (or 61.6%) out of the 2,137 valid votes.

This week members of the National Assembly will also vote to amend two Bills – Computer Misuse (Amendment) Bill, 2012 and Penal Code (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2012 - which will be presented to the National Assembly by the Minister for Home Affairs and Transport, Joel Morgan.

The Bill on Computer Misuse is proposing another definition for “Computer” to encompass other data processing devices performing logistical, arithmetic or storage functions such as 3G phones.

The Penal Code (Amendment) Bill is proposing six new sections which extend the protection to the right to privacy of an individual as afforded by the Constitution and other laws of Seychelles. If approved, it will be henceforth, an offence to:

• Observe and record private act
• Observe and record private parts
• Possess prohibited visual recording, and
• Distribute prohibited visual recording
The assembly will then rise to recess until September 25, 2012.
