Tennis: Kia Motors African Junior Tournament, September 20-24-Kia Motors makes official donation

The Kia Motors African Junior Tournament will take place from September 20-24 and will regroup young players in the under-12 and under-14 age categories.

It will be hosted under the umbrella of the International Tennis Federation and the Confederation of African Tennis.

STA chairman Charlie Ng yesterday accepted a cheque whi9ch will cover the cost for organising the championship from Kia Motors’ managing director Tony Payet during a short presentation ceremony at the Roche Caïman tennis courts.

National Sports Council chief executive of the Alain Volcère, STA executive committee members and some young players were present.

The money will be used to cover the overall logistic expenses of the competition.

According to Mr Payet, Kia Motors is one of the main tennis sponsors worldwide and as the local branch, it is following doing the same.

He added that the company will also look into the possibility of making the competition an annual event.

On behalf of the STA, Mr Ng thanked Kia Motors for the sponsorship.

He said the competition will serve as a boost for young local players who wish to continue in tennis and also as a motivation for those wish to take up the sport. He also added that choosing to run an international competition for the very young is part of the association’s plan to introduce tennis to young Seychellois, thus creating a solid base for the sport.
