He was accompanied by Japanese ambassador Toshihisa Takata, chief of defence forces Brigadier Leopold Payet and senior Japanese naval officers.

Rear Admiral Fuchinoue also called on Home Affairs and Transport Minister Joel Morgan among other people, and is today due to meet Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Paul Adam.

Mr Fuchinoue is heading a Japanese 754-strong training squadron which is in Seychelles during a voyage aimed at helping 196 young officers of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force gain navigational skills and knowledge.

Meanwhile, some of the Japanese sailors yesterday offered the public orchestral music at the post office in Victoria, as bureaux de change reported heavy patronage from the sailors.
