The aim of the NCAP level course is to complement the training conducted by national sports federations and associations to develop their coaches.

The second programme for this year was launched yesterday by NSC’s marketing and promotion manager Giovanna Rousseau in the presence of training and technical development director Bernard Denis, Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) secretary general Alain Alcindor and course lecturers.

A total 17 coaches have registered for the programme which will provide them with the basic knowledge of sports science, as well as the basic knowledge of training principles and the skills needed for daily training preparations.

Addressing the coaches, Ms Rousseau praised them for their interest in the programme and reassured them that they have made a wise and important decision.

She explained that attending the programme will not only help them to work with their respective athletes, but will also keep them up to date with the latest developments in the world of sports.

Ms Rousseau added that, apart from being free of charge, the coaches will also benefit greatly as the medium of instruction is Creole. This, she said, will ease the students-lecturers interaction.

She also said the programme will give the coaches the scientific knowledge they will need to further their abilities and skills in achieving objectives and goals set.

On behalf of the lecturers, Paul Nioze, who will be conducting the anti-doping component of the programme, encouraged the coaches to stay focused and persevere throughout despite the hard time that lies ahead.

He also encouraged them to gather maximum knowledge as everything learnt will be put into practice during their future career.

Among the modules which will be covered are growth and development, physical preparation, skills analysis and development, planning and safety in sports, health and sports, nutrition and sports and anti-doping.

At the end of the programme, the coaches will be assessed through written and oral examinations.
