Attacks on US consulate in Libya-President Michel extends condolences to counterpart Obama |14 September 2012

Mr Michel extended the sympathies of the Seychellois nation upon the death of US resident ambassador Chris Stevens following an attack on the US consulate in the eastern coastal city of Benghazi on Tuesday night.

A second diplomat, Sean Smith, and two other US officials were killed in the raid, which came on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

President Michel offered his deepest sympathies to the people of United States, and in particular to the families of those affected, and pledged the support of the Seychelles government and people in the continued fight against terrorism as a multifaceted effort.

“The fact that these attacks have taken place so close to the tragic anniversary of the 9/11 attacks further reminds us that terrorism knows no borders, nor boundaries, and that it is only through the determined efforts of all nations, that we shall be able to overcome the forces of intolerance,” said President Michel.
