In a short ceremony at the Grand Anse primary school on Monday afternoon, the materials were officially handed over in the presence of the Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon and the Libyan embassy chargé d’affaires Mohamed Alnajay.

Also present were the director general for schools Odile Octave, member of the National Assembly for the Grand Anse district Lenny Lebon, general manager of the Le Meridien Barbarons resort Imran Azhar, teachers and students from both schools.

All the various partners had worked together for the benefit of the more needy students and the head teacher of the Grand Anse school, Sylvette Joubert, said the donations will surely be of great help to the pupils, who were described as “very special and was their duty to bring out the very best in them in every way possible, such as a conducive environment, as well as materials to enhance learning”.

A variety of balls for different sports were given to representatives of each school, followed by school bags and stationery for each cycle -- from Cycle One to Cycle Three.

A student from La Misere school gave a testimony of how not being able to have new materials for the start of the new school term, her teacher – through collaboration from various other partners – had made it possible for her to have a new bag, stationery and other essentials.

The head teacher of each school also accepted a full, brand new computer set for their staff to use.

MNA Lebon said that they are continuing to evaluate the needs of the schools to see how they can best attend to them, especially with the help of their partners.

“We want to make sure that future donations also correspond just as well to the needs of the school,” he said.

The event also served to wish the Libyan chargé d’affaires many happy returns of the day, as he was celebrating his birthday.  All present joined him in sharing a birthday cake provided for the occasion.
