Tourism board and parks authority formalise ties

Mrs Grandcourt and Mr Matatiken exchange documents after signing the MoU

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday at the STB’s headquarters at Bel Ombre by its chief executive Elsia Grandcourt and that of SNPA Denis Matatiken.

Speaking shortly after signing the accord, Mrs Grandcourt said it is fitting that the agreement has been signed as it marks the start of the Tourism Week which is being held under the theme Tourism and Sustainable Energy.

“The STB has had links in the past with the SNPA but we felt it was time now to formalise it,” she said.

Mr Matatiken said this agreement will benefit the tourism industry as a whole and thanked the STB for their collaboration.

“Formalising this agreement is a step forward on how we can work together not only for a better nature but for a better Seychelles,” he said.

The agreement will further strengthen the commitment to continue promoting our biodiversity by showcasing the country’s national attractions, he said.

It will also reinforce the aim of educating and creating awareness among visitors on the efforts being made by the government towards the conservation and protection of our natural environment, he added.

The Tourism Week will be celebrated until September 29, ending with the Seychelles Ball which will be held at the Constance Ephelia Resort.

Other activities during the week will include a nature walk, tourism fair, a special sunset cruise and a workshop with trade partners.

As part of the global ‘clean up the world campaign’, the STB team will clean up its premises.
