Deputy speaker discusses assembly’s entry into the Pan-African parliament

Mr Pool attended the 29th session of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) Parliamentary Assembly – International Meetings of ACP-European Union (EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly held in Brussels, Belgium from September 18-21, and the 4th Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from September 21-23.

The conference in Brussels adopted a resolution to extend the negotiation period for new economic partnership between the ACP and EU countries. The delegates also discussed the situation in Somalia and its effects on other countries in the region.
 
Mr Pool was accompanied at the ACP conference by the Seychelles Ambassador to Brussels and the European Union Vivienne Fock-Tave and the counselor to the ambassador, Beryl Samson.

The 4th Regional Conference in Solidarity with Cuba in Addis Ababa was an opportunity for Mr Pool, who is also the chairperson of the International Affairs Committee (IAC), to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by Cuba and the Cuban people to help free Africa from apartheid and colonialism.

Mr Pool thanked the Cuban government for sharing its resources to educate and improve the lives of Africans and made reference to the significant support that Cuba has been giving the Seychelles government over the years, particularly in education and health.

Seychelles also joined other African countries to support the struggle for the liberation of the Cuban Five.
During his visit to Ethiopia, Mr Pool also discussed with his African counterparts and finalised Seychelles’ entry into the Pan-African parliament. He also discussed how the National Assembly can benefit from its various programmes.

Seychelles is entitled to six seats in the Pan-African Parliament, which is an institution of the African Union.

Mr Pool was accompanied at the conference by Joseph Nourrice, the Seychelles Permanent Representative to the African Union and Ambassador to Ethiopia and other neighbouring states.
