Letter to the editor-Modernising the telecom services business |15 October 2012
May I propose that the government considers changing the current license fee of a telecom business from 10% of the turnover to a fixed fee, which together with 15% GST (Vat) means that users are being taxed at 25% of the consumption of telecom services.
Another proposal would be to amend the Business Tax Act to allow 100% depreciation for expenditures aimed at improving the quality of the last mile connectivity, especially in favour of fibre optic cables. The last mile is the connection that reaches the customers.
