Local broadcasting house opens new office on Praslin

President Michel and other guests look on as Minister Larue cuts the ribbon to officially open the new station

The new office, based in the Seychelles Pension Fund Complex, was officially opened by the Minister for Health Mitcy Larue, who had pushed for such an initiative to be realised since the time she was the Baie Ste Anne member of the National Assembly.

The ceremony took place in the presence of President James Michel, principal secretary for community development and sports Denis Rose, members of parliament Natasha Esther of Baie Ste Anne, Marc Volcère of Grand Anse Praslin and Chantal Ghislain of La Digue and the inner islands, other government officials, and members of the SBC board.

SBC’s chief executive Antoine Onezime said the new office will cut cost, especially when having to send a crew over to the island, where only one trip was previously costing them as much as R7,000 on average.

President Michel and his delegation are guided on a tour of the new facilities

“The demand for an SBC office on Praslin is one that dates back several years, but back then it was not economically feasible for us to have such a project. But today, with the advancement in technology, it makes perfect sense for us to have such a facility here,” he said.

“We are also aiming to have more local contents on our radio and television programmes,” he said.
