More chances of training for tourism academy students |26 October 2012

This is being helped along by a memorandum of understanding signed by the University of Seychelles (UniSey) and Constance Hospitality Training Centre in Mauritius to express their mutual interest to collaborate for the development of human resources through the training of students in hospitality and tourism.

The agreement was signed yesterday at the UniSey, Anse Royale by the general manager of Academy and External Relations of Constance Hospitality Training Centre Claude Narain and the university’s vice-chancellor Marina Confait.

Present at the ceremony were UniSey Registrar Michel Denousse, principal of the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) Flavien Joubert and STB's general manager for tourism development Peter Moncherry.

Constance Hospitality Training Centre is UniSey’s fifth partner from Mauritius to join its Corporate Partner’s Network.

The Constance group manages Constance Lemuria on Praslin and Constance Ephelia on Mahe and its training centre has been an STA partner since 2008.

Mrs Confait said “such partnership is vital to ensure relevance of the provision of education and training to the labour market”.

She explained that some of the potential areas of cooperation between the two institutions are “exchange study visits of staff and students, promoting the partner institution and collaborating to provide the best training environment for students as well as other areas of mutual interest”.

Mr Narain said he is happy with the agreement. “We are here to collaborate, help and develop the tourism and hospitality industry,” he said, adding that now more Seychellois are heads of department in the local Constance resorts.

Mr Narain is the longest serving hotel manager of the five-star Constance hotels in Mauritius – Belle Mare Plage and Prince Maurice.

He has also made great contributions in the development of the curriculum of the Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management currently being delivered by the STA.

Mr Narain also occasionally acts as guest lecturer when he is in Seychelles.
