Inaugural Apex golf tournament

Played at the Seychelles Golf Club, Anse Aux Pins, the tournament was eagerly awaited and promised to be a huge success.

Some 38 golfers competed under an individual stableford format and the front nine holes were fiercely contested with excellent scores recorded.

The likes of veteran golfer Alix Esparon and ex-captain Rizvi set the early pace with two or three others hot on their heels.

It was clear that a brilliant back nine score would be needed to catch Rizvi’s outstanding 23 points on the front.

There was also a chance that Rizvi would collapse on the back nine and surrender his lead as he had been out of sorts in recent months nursing an elbow injury.

All doubts were laid to rest when the doctor came in with a solid back nine score of 18 points, giving him a winning score of 41 – five shots better than his handicap!

On hand to give out the prizes to Rizvi was Murray Clarke, sales manager at Apex. Subsidiary prizes went to Alix Esparon (best front nine score) and Jerry Jean-Baptiste (best back nine score).

There was even a prize for ‘most golf’, customarily given to the golfer with the worst score on the day, and James Rose-Ines happily collected this prize for his total five points!

Speaking on behalf of Apex, Mr Clarke was very pleased with the tournament and said the company is targeting an even bigger and better tournament in 2013.

As a first-time sponsor of golf in Seychelles, Apex put on a tremendous tournament with on course refreshments available and some eight or so Apex staff members competing as players, which clearly displayed their total commitment towards the event.
