Health minister Larue leads delegation at WHO meeting |22 November 2012

During this conference, which will end tomorrow, Minister Larue has requested the WHO to pay special attention to the special health circumstances of small island states.

She has drawn attention to the priority diseases of the country, namely non-communicable diseases and the health challenges being faced by Seychelles.

Taking place under the theme ‘Leadership for better health’, this annual ministers’ conference is examining a wide range of issues, ranging from the general programme of work of the WHO in the African region and associated budget issues to health promotion, disaster risk management, health and human rights, HIV and Aids, the international health regulations, among many others.

Minister Larue is accompanied by special adviser Peggy Vidot, health consultant Dr Bernard Valentin, who is also the vice-chairman of WHO’s programme sub-committee. Dr Valentin is in Angola at the invitation of the WHO. Also present in Angola is WHO liaison officer in Seychelles, Dr Cornelia Atsyor.

Before going to Angola, Minister Larue attended the meeting of ministers responsible for health and HIV and Aids held in Maputo, Mozambique and the Indian Ocean colloquium on HIV and Aids held in the Comoros.

From Angola, Minister Larue will proceed to Cuba for an official visit. In Cuba she will attend a conference on primary health care and will hold bilateral talks with her Cuban counterpart.
