Badminton-Cupidon, Camille undisputed champs

Women’s singles champ Camille               Men’s singles winner Cupidon

Camille and Cupidon made sure of the titles as they finished as the big winners in Saturday’s knockout finals played at the La Promenade Gymnasium.

Camille needed three sets to beat Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) women’s singles gold medallist Cynthia Course 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 21-11) in the final of the singles competition contested by 11 players.

Camille then joined forces with cousin Juliette Ah-Wan to win the women’s doubles. Their 2-0 (21-9, 21-17) win came against the duo of Cynthia Course and Danielle Jupiter.
Only four pairs took part in the women’s doubles event.

Twice former Sportsman of the Year Cupidon really found last year’s best player Kervin Ghislain a hard nut to crack in the men’s singles final which went the distance. Cupidon won the match 2-1 (21-17, 20-22, 21-17).

Cupidon then partnered Ghislain to win the men’s doubles final against Siva and Prabath on a 2-0 (21-13, 21-7) score.

In the mixed doubles final, Cupidon played alongside Juliette Ah-Wan with whom he has won a number of international events including the All-Africa Games and the African Championship. The respected pair showed no mercy for the brother and sister duo of Cynthia and Richie Course to win 2-0 (21-17, 21-12).

Kervin Ghislain and Cynthia Course finished as runners-up to Cupidon and Camille in the senior category for the player of the year titles, while Chlorie Cadeau and Javis Renaud have been voted the young female and male players for the year 2012.
