Indian association brings Christmas cheer to elderly

The elderly enjoying lunch

The Christmas treat was hosted by the Indian Association of Seychelles and this is the second consecutive year that the members organise such an activity for the elderly people.

Present at the event were Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, several members of the National Assembly, principal secretary for social affairs Linda William-Melanie, chairperson of the association Vijay Patel and members of the association.

Addressing those present, Mr Patel said the association mainly aims to give out to the community.
In his speech, Minister Meriton said a society is judged by the way it treats its elderly people, adding that in Seychelles, they are treated well.

He said the activity hosted by the Indian association symbolises unity, a great value which helps the country in moving forward.

Mr Meriton thanked Mr Patel and all the members of the association for their work and devotion and for hosting this festive treat for the elderly people.

Speaking to Nation, the association’s vice-chairperson Ramu Pillay said the association wants to do something different and make a difference in society.

He said this is a way to thank the elderly people for their contributions in shaping up the country.

The Christmas lunch has become an annual event and the association also donates food items to help the elderly people to have healthy and nutritious breakfast meals. This donation is done on a quarterly basis.
