Football: Cosafa under-17 zone VI tournament-Graham Cafrine scores as Seychelles bow out |14 December 2012

The team’s only goal came in the 1-4 defeat against South Africa in their final group A match on Wednesday at the Zanaco Sunset stadium, in Lusaka, Zambia.

Reports from Lusaka say there was huge jubilation in the Seychelles camp when Graham Cafrine scored the team’s only goal of the competition with just two minutes remaining in the match against South Africa.

Fagrie Lakay, Siyanda Ngcobo, Bongane Mathebula and Thembinkosi Phiri scored for South Africa who have finished at the top of the table in group A to set up a semifinal showdown with group B runners-up Angola.

On Tuesday, coach Marc Mathiot’s players suffered a 0-5 defeat against Botswana in their third game. Wakgotla Outlule, Tiroyaone Maome, Lefika Pheto, Kabelano Mooketsane and Thatayaone Ramatlapeng got Botswana’s goals.

After putting up a brave fight against hosts Zambia in their first group A match last Saturday, the Seychelles youth team were hammered 5-0 by Malawi on Sunday. Lovemore Jere gave Malawi a 1-0 half-time lead before they scored four more times in a 15-minute spell in the second half.

The other scorers were Wongani Kuchisanja, Thokozani Harrison, Lessman Singini and Abraham Kamwendo.

Seychelles have finished bottom of group A and are out of the competition which continues today with the two semifinals – South Africa against Angola and Zambia against Lesotho at the Nkoloma stadium.
The winning semifinalists will meet in the final on Sunday at Nkoloma stadium.
