Deadline extended for registration of coco de mer |20 December 2012

Initially the Ministry of Environment and Energy had asked members of the public to declare their coco de mer and make payment of R100 by December 15 this year.

Noting that there is an overwhelming interest to register the coco de mer and make payments, the ministry said the new deadline, which is being extended to after the festive season, will give more time to members of the public to take part in this exercise as required by the the law.

This can be done at the Ministry of Environment and Energy at Fond B’Offay, Praslin or the Botanical Gardens on Mahé. The fee of R100 per tag will also be effective until January 15.

The ministry is reminding members of the public that the ban on trade of coco de mer kernel imposed earlier this year is still in force.
